I was looking for an universal language which would bring together the multi-nationality found on Kudamm to wish the street a happy anniversary. Morse code, which plays a significant role in the German culture and history served as an inspiration. The most popular Morse code is S.O.S. and in that aspect there is an irony against the consumerism and materialism that is to be found there.
All the samples used were recorded at Kudamm on the Christopher Street Day.
As a radio piece I worked with silences that are very unwelcome in radio program nowadays. This piece is also an hommage to the Morse code, which is no longer used on radio frequencies. In Morse code : “Herzlichen Gluckwünsch zu 125 Jahre Kudamm!”
